Museum Assistant
$18/hour 35hours/week
The Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic student to work in the following areas: Archives & Collections, Education & Programming for the public and our summer camp program, Interpretive Guiding, and Front Desk operations.
Each year thousands of visitors from all over the world come to Muskoka to experience its beauty and learn its history.
Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and organized Assistant to support our team across various projects and administrative functions. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for learning. This role offers an opportunity to develop leadership capabilities while contributing to research, project management, and customer service initiatives. The Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining efficient operations and supporting team members in achieving their goals.
Responsibilities
Manage and update databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
Organize and maintain metadata for various projects to facilitate easy access and retrieval within the Museum database
Assist with research activities by gathering information, preparing reports, and summarizing findings
Support Museum programs through preparation of instructional materials and resource management, assisting to develop programs in line with Ontario Curriculum requirements
Identify objects and information to support current programs
Set up research and workstations for accessible audiences.
Organize and maintain physical collections following standard collections handling procedures and Museum best practices
Maintain organized records of all activities related to ongoing projects
Create outreach programs for a variety of audiences with our collection and exhibits
Assist with welcoming visitors and conducting tours of exhibits for a variety of audiences
Assist with the gift shop and front desk duties
Other Duties As Assigned
Experience
Prior experience with databases, metadata management and historical research is preferred
Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal skills
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Research experience demonstrating analytical thinking and attention to detail
Excellent writing skills for preparing clear and professional documents
This position is ideal for candidates who love Canadian History and are eager to develop their professional skills in a dynamic environment while supporting impactful projects.
Requirements
This position is dependent on funding received through the Canada Summer Jobs program. All candidates must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for this role:
Candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30.
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Candidates must be able to work the number of weeks approved for the position
Job Types: Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 weeks
